Sophisticated modelling techniques allow products to be 'tested' in a virtual environment, significantly reducing the need for physical testing of real prototypes.
Frangus offers analysis services for testing the strength, impact resistance, fit and function of products through the use of Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Tolerance Stack Analysis and both physical and dynamic motion studies.
These techniques use the same models created during the design phase ensuring that the analysis is always carried out on the most up-to-date design. Static and dynamic analyses evaluate the loads applied to the parts of the product and these can be used in FEA work to simulate how the product is likely to behave in the real world.
FEA breaks the model down into small sections and calculates the distortion of each of these 'elements' under load to find the stresses within the parts. This data can then also be used in fatigue studies to assess the working life of the product.
The combined effects of the manufacturing tolerances on the final product can be evaluated to gain insight into how often a real product is likely to fail its final inspection and what steps might be most cost-effective in reducing the number of rejects.
Motion analysis allows us to make useful predictions as to how the product will perform in service and to check that moving parts don't collide or clash. Dynamic analysis gives insight into the loads applied to parts of a mechanism as it moves, accelerates or impacts
